I believe I met Peg for the first time when Pastors for Peace came to St. Augustine about eight years ago. I have worked with her on a few things since.
She always reminded me of my grandmother a bit. They were involved with many of the same causes. I wish the two had met. They would have been such good friends!
At 30, I am one of the "young folks" in this town. We are expected to carry the torch. At times when I felt like it was hopeless, I would often think of Peg to get me back in the game. She was really something special.
While people joke about "Punk-rock grannies," I can truly say I knew one! Peg was a punk-rock granny!
Tom Santoni wrote that it would take ten activists to fill her shoes. I think he's right. Peg was one of the most active people I have ever met. The lady just did not give up. I know that I will think of Peg the next time I want to throw my hands in the air and just give up. I know that she is there to lend me some of her fire when mine gets weak.

I just wish I could have told her.
